Aiding disaster relief with satellite-derived bathymetry

Richard Flemmings, position, Tcarta

Building comprehensive surface models for Antigua and Barbuda Recovery

After Hurricane Irma devastated the islands of Antigua and Barbuda in September 2017, the UK government needed pre and post data to understand the impact of damage for reconstruction efforts. Unfortunately, no previous surface model or geospatial dataset existed.

Mr. Flemmings explains how critical collaboration across Vricon, DHI, and DigitalGlobe was in completing pre- and post-disaster datasets, which in turn enabled TCarta to build seamless land and shallow water surface models in under 3 months.
